Plymouth, New Hampshire and what is now West Plymouth was part of a large plot of undivided land in the beautiful Pemigewasset Valley, this town was first named New Plymouth, after the original Plymouth colony in Massachusetts. The grant for this town went to settlers from Hollis, all of whom had been soldiers in the Seven Years’ War. Some had originally come from Plymouth, Massachusetts. Plymouth is the home of Plymouth State University. Main Street has an interesting mix of stores, restaurants, bakeries, and sporting goods stores. Plymouth is home to Plymouth State University and the old Main Street cinema is now the Flying Monkey Music Hall – aka The Flying Monkey Performing Arts Center. The Monkey brings well-known musicians and bands to New Hampshire, the venue is open all year.
