Lakes Region Vacations: Inn At Mill Falls
Envision the bright blue of the spring sky, a few puffy white clouds gently spanning the horizon, and the deep dark blue of cold water rippling as it leads to the thin coating of ice still clinging to the April waters of Lake Winnipisaukee. This was the scene as we looked out the double glass doors to our walk-out patio at Church Landing at the Inns at Mill Falls.
We selected The Inns & Spa at Mill Falls specifically for a relaxing New Hampshire getaway vacation. Of the four properties to choose from, we selected the Suites of Church Landing. Our accommodations offered a double Jacuzzi soaking tub, a sitting area, waterfront patio, and the wonderful pool and fitness center. The indoor-outdoor pool, along with hot tubs both inside and out, gave us enjoyment during both the exceptionally warm April days and the cooler evening hours. Spa treatments were available and we could choose anything from shell massages and enzyme peels to lemongrass salt scrubs and a full-service salon. They even offer a Maple Syrup Facial.
For dinner, we elected to go a bit less formal and a bit more romantic and intimate with Lago’s. This Northern Italian Eatery, located inside The Inn at Bay Point, is just a short ride or a 5-minute walk from Church Landing. With a fabulous view of the Bay, we dined by candlelight in the cozy atmosphere. Lago’s is warmly decorated with hand-glazed tiles and hand-painted murals of the Italian countryside. Lago’s encourages laughter, plate sharing, and relaxation. Our choices of appetizers (butternut squash ravioli with a sweet cream, sage, and toasted hazelnuts sauce and antipasto) was more food than the four of us could put away. Then came the large caesar salads with or without anchovies. We shared two and they were very fresh.
On to the main courses… Scampi del Gambero – Shrimp with garlic, lemon, white wine over pasta, was a very nice dish with good flavor and nice size shrimp. We also enjoyed Spaghetti Alla Carbonara, a blend of pancetta, cream, peas and parmesan cheese, tossed with al dente pasta. Exceptional. At this point, dessert became the doggy bag and was wrapped along with utensils for our later consumption…..Oh, my what a treat! Try all of the desserts.
Since April in New Hampshire can be a bit crisp, we decided to cuddle up in front of the instant gas fireplace after dinner and take off the chill. Once we were nice and toasty again, we then crawled (due to the overstuffed mattress) into bed. Comforters, lots of pillows, and wonderful linens… sweet dreams are made of these!
Breakfast the next morning was composed of homemade muffins, fresh fruit, and an assortment of breakfast items. A separate special-order omelet station was also available.
As we packed our overnight bags, we realized that one night is not enough to take full advantage of all the Inn has to offer. There are four choices of dining at the Inn at Mills Falls, as well as several local establishments within walking distance and many downtown Meredith, NH shops and places to explore!
