Littleton New Hampshire was part of Lisbon until 1770, when it was granted as Apthorp in honor of George Apthorp, head of one of the wealthiest m The Eastgate Restaurant, Motel and Lounge, a new Hampton Inn and the fabulous Beal House Inn and Restaurant are located here. The town has more than twenty historic sites, including the Littleton Grist Mill and Historic Thayer's Inn. Littleton is vibrant and growing community. The town is a regional shopping mecca. Home Depot, Applebees's, 99 Restaurant, and other high profile chains have recently opened stores in Littleton. Littleton is home of the Littleton Stamp and Coin Company - one of the oldest catalog coin companies in the world. Other notable local businesses include; McClure's Maple - a well-known maple syrup and maple candy manufacturer. Downtown Littleton features a wide variety of interesting shops including: Northern Lights Music, several restaurants, boutiques, gift shops and clothing stores and the Jax Movie Theatre. Littleton was the first New Hampshire town to be awarded the NH Profile Community Award for preserving, protecting or promoting NH's spirit of independence. The town continues to have a reputation at a great place to live, work, and do business.

Colonel Little held the post of Surveyor of the King's Woods, and the town was named Littleton in his honor the same year New Hampshire became a state.
