Canterbury was originally a fort and trading post where the Penacook Indians came to trade. Canterbury was also home to the last colony of Shakers, and the Canterbury Shaker Village is now an internationally known historic site and museum. Other notable historic sites in the village of Canterbury include Worsted Church and Shaker’s Office.
