Mittersill was not long ago one of the many "forgotten ski areas" of New England. No longer - Mittersill has re-opened, the triails have been cleared, new towers have been installed and ski experience is back.
During a recent land exchange between the State of NH (which owns and operates nearby Cannon Mountain) and the US Forest Service, an agreement was reached to incorporated Mittersill into Cannon Mountain. Part of the agreement included a provision that limits any cutting of trees on the Mittersill site above the 2,500 foot elevation. The agreement was reached in an effort to ensure the viability of Bicknell's Thrus and other species that live on Mount Jackson.
Getting There: Cranmore Mountain Resort is located in the Mount Washington Valley, off Route 16 in North Conway. From the south, take I-95 north to Portsmouth, NH, then the Spaulding Turnpike (Route 16) north to North Conway Village. The resort is 125 miles from Boston (about a 2.5 hours drive) and 230 miles from Hartford (4 hours drive). A new double chair lift is planned.
