Constructed in 1900, at the cost of 1.7 million dollars, Mount Washington Hotel was the brainchild of coal broker, Joseph Stickney. Stickney imported more than 200 Italian artisans for the project, which only took two years to complete. Today, Mount Washington Hotel is one of the few surviving grand hotels in the White Mountains region of New Hampshire, and the greater New England area at large, and was designated a historic landmark in 1986. Throughout it’s history, Mount Washington Hotel has only ever been a seasonal summer destination. In the winter of 1999, it became a year-round resort for the first time, and has continued to be so to this day.
