NH Lottery History
In the 1960's a bill was passed for a state-wide sweepstakes in New Hampshire. Private ballots were posted to vote on which communities of New Hampshire would or would not sell tickets. An overwhelming ninety-five percent of the communities in the state agreed to sell lottery tickets. The ticket agents were selected and the sales started very shortly after. Since New Hampshire started lottery drawings almost forty years ago, thirty-seven states of the union, the territory of Puerto Rico, and five Canadian provinces have started lotteries of their own.
From the smaller beginning with one type of game and a $5.7 million in sales to the immense $215.8 million with the help of Instant Games and a cornucopia of lotto-variety games such as Pick 3, Pick 4, MegaBucks, Tri-State Cash Lotto, and Powerball. To make the idea of a lottery even better, there have been percentages of the profits going to fund education in the state of New Hampshire since its start. This makes the overall worth of the lottery within the state invaluable.
For those who try to make their dreams come true with a dollar for a lottery ticket, be responsible. Gambling problems and addiction are nothing to take lightly. Playing the lottery is not unlike casino gambling in that you should only wager what you can afford to lose.
